Visa Accessibility Guides

 Visa: Accessibility Guides

Graphics created for Visa to help educate developers on best practices when writing code for disabled users. Visa is an important thought leader for accessibility on the web, and it was important demonstrate thought leadership around usability for all types of users.

Project date: Fall 2013

Issue: Accessibility was becoming more of a concern on the web in 2013, especially among finance/banking/utility companies. Developers who were new to accessibility concerns and requirements were having trouble understanding the needs of some users, and some were forgetting to make sure code was up to Visa internal accessibility standards.

Project: Create guides to be used by accessibility teams/leaders, in training sessions for UX/Engineering, and as a reference item during development of products.

Process:

  • Interview accessibility leaders within the company and discover which best practices needed to be reenforced.

  • Develop rough copy of guides for review by Enterprise UX leaders.

  • Design and illustrate high resolution guides for distribution to developers and for use during internal training sessions.

Outcome: We saw a significant increase in the awareness around accessibility among developers. These guides led to many great conversations between developers and UX, and helped enhance our working relationships across the teams.
